There are many great pubs & restaurants in the area worth trying, but we recommend the following from our own experience over the years

Biddestone (About 25 mins north east of Bath) Biddestone Website
White Horse Pub - A small pub in a wonderful location in the heart of this very pretty character village with its green and duckpond. The interior of the pub is disappointing but good value meals are available.
Biddestone Arms No personal knowledge available on this pub, but worth investigating in this picturesque village.

Box (About 15 mins East of Bath) The Northey Arms This Pub has recently been converted into a modern upmarket restaurant/pub. The atmosphere and cuisine are excellent but quite expensive! The Northey Arms is situated on a main road and is not particularly attractive from the outside - don't let this put you off. Tel.01225 742333

Bradford-on-Avon and Area (Approx 20 mins South East of Bath) Bradford-on-Avon Website Delightful busy Witshire village on river.
Cross Guns Avoncliffe Nr Bradford-on-Avon Tel 01225 862335 Good Value meals, great pub atmosphere and gardens. A wonderful setting close to canal with viaduct over river. Parking can be difficult and due to popularity the Cross Guns can be extremely busy.
Cumberwell Golf Club Nr Bradford-on-Avon Tel 01225 863322 The Golf Club restaurant is spacious and would be ideal for Sunday lunch with a few friends! The views of the golf course and patio area make this Golf Club worth considering.

Dyrham (About 10 mins North of Bath) The Crown offers excellent restaurant facilities, but the pub is close to a busy main road. Convenient if you are in the area Tel. 01225 891166

Freshford (About 15 mins South of Bath) Inn at Freshford Tel 01225 722250 Pretty village Inn in a great rural location close to the river.

Heytesbury - Warminster (About 30 mins South East of Bath) The Angel Recommended if you are on the far side of Warminster. Some courses are a little pricey, but it is a great pub/restaurant. Tel. 01985 840330

Limpley Stoke (About 10 mins South of Bath) The Hop Pole 01225 723134 Small character pub with garden and selection of pub food.

Marshfield (About 15 mins north of Bath) Catherine Wheel Pub/Restaurant Tel 01225 89222 Village pub highly regarded for its home cooked food and real ales served in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere

Midford - Nr Bath (Approx 10 mins south of Bath)
The Hope & Anchor Midford. Good Value meals. Outside paved garden, but the main merit of the pub is good value rather than its location.Tel.01225 832296
The Wheatsheaf Combe Hay,(about 2 miles from Midford) This old character pub has been refurbished in a contemporary style. The large garden with good seating facilities provides an enjoyable area for an enjoyable drink in the country. Now primarily a restaurant it is popular, rather expensive and prior booking is recommended. Tel 01225 833504

Monkton Farleigh (About 15 minutes East of Bath) The Kings Arms Tel 01225 858705 Busy character village pub with good value food.

Rode (About 20 mins South of Bath) Rode a very small but pleasant village The Cross Keys Inn High Street, Rode. This pub/restaurant has recently been modernized to provide a pleasant modern venue with quality food and good service. Tel. 01373 830900

Seend (About 25 mins South East of Bath) The Barge Inn A wonderful location adjoining the canal. A busy pub due to its picturesque setting. Tel 01380 828230

Southstoke - Nr Bath (Approx 10 mins South of Bath) The Packhorse Inn Tel 01225 832060 A very old local pub

Ston Easton (About 25 mins South West of Bath) Ston Easton House and Hotel Tel 01761 241631 Well renowned up market hotel

Stourhead (About 40 minutes South of Bath) A celebrated National Trust landscape garden and Palladian mansion in Wiltshires worth visiting especially when the rhodadendrums are out. If you can eat at The Spread Eagle Stourton Tel 01747 840587 A fine traditional British inn at Stourhead with traditional English cooking using locally sourced food.

Tunley (About 10 mins South of Bath) King William Tel 01761 470408 Not much to commend Tunley, but this modern gastro pub is well worth trying.

Upton Scudamore - Warminster (About 30 mins South of Bath) The Angel Tel 01985 213225 Former coaching inn and recommended.

Wells (About 30 minutes South West of Bath) Definitely short list for a day out and visit the Cathedral and Bishops Palace & Gardens
Cafe Piano Heritage Courtyard Tel 01749 677772 A hidden good value little gem in a pedestrian cul-de-sac, ideal for lunch
Goodfellows Sadler Street Tel 01749 673866 Excellent patisserie & seafood restaurant NB £10 for 2 courses + Glass of wine!
Swan Hotel Sadler Street Great to pop in for coffee in front of log fire on a wet day and look towards the Cathedral

Whitley Nr Melksham (About 20 mins East of Bath) The location of the Pear Tree is nothing special, but the pub with its attractive level gardens, excellent food and great atmosphere is highly recommended. Tel 01225 899179

Wingfield (About 20 mins South East of Bath) The Poplars Tel 752426 Country pub with garden and extensive menu.

Woolverton (about 9 miles South of Bath) The Red Lion Woolverton Tel. 01373 830350. A popular pub close to the main road Generally busy but provides good pub atmosphere. Tel. 01373 830900.
